AeroPress Coffee
  12/12/2013 8:46:12 PM

If you have never had coffee brewed with an AeroPress, you don't know what you're missing. It combines the full-body flavor of a French Press minus the grit that is often left by one.

This recipe is based on the inverted brewing method.

Coffee - 20mg medium fine grind.
Water - 400ml (13.5oz) at 175°F. Additional hot water is needed for preheat.

  1. Insert the plunger into the AeroPress chamber to the number 4.
  2. Pour hot water into the chamber to preheat for about 30 seconds.
  3. Empty the hot water into the cup/mug to be used for the coffee to preheat it.
  4. Put the coffee into the chamber. The funnel can be used.
  5. Pour hot water into the chamber up to about 1.5-2.
  6. Use paddle and mix for 30 seconds.
  7. Top off the chamber with hot water. If possible, rinse the paddle with the hot water. This keeps the grinds stay in the coffee and cleans the paddle in the same time.
  8. Let the coffee brew for 90 seconds.
  9. At about the 80 second mark, place a filter in the cap. Rince it by carefully using the preheating hot water from the cup/mug. This should take about 10 seconds.
  10. Cap the AeroPress.
  11. Invert it over the cup/mug, and press. This can take anywhere between 20-40 seconds. No need to hurry. Some people stop just before the air comes out. I just take it all.
  12. Top off with hot water, similar to Americano.
When making a smaller cup of 6oz or so, I simply use 1/2 of the coffee, and start with the plunger at number 3. No additional water is needed.

A slight variation of this recipe can be made with 195°F water. The only difference to the above instructions is the brew time changes from 90 seconds to 60.

What's important is not how precise you follow this recipe. What's if you enjoy the coffee you make. Feel free to experiment with water temperature, brew time, amount of coffee, level of grind, etc. Please do share any modifications which result in a good cup of joe!
