| VS 2008 TFS TF30177 Error

Recently, I setup a VS 2008 TFS, mainly to be used as a source control vault. Things have been working. The problem came when I tried to create a new project.
I got a TF30177 error. When searched around, I got many posts about installing SP1. That didn't work for me.
Here is the problem I ran into.
When I installed the TFS, I named my SharePoint the same name as the hostname. Let's call that VS2008. After getting it setup, I decided to also use it as a SharePoint portal for team file sharing. As a result, I changed the URL for the SharePoint to a FQDN. Let's call that sharepoint.mydomain.com.
When I connect to the TFS from VS2008 Team Explorer, regardless of which URL I connect to, I cannot add a new project. The problem I believe is either way I connect, I had a permission problem trying to add a TFS project to sharepoint.mydomain.com. After poking around, I the resolution I got working was to create an alternate accesspoint for the SharePoint.
To do this, login to the Central Admin page of the sharepoint server. Typically, it's http://vs2008:17012, with vs2008 being the hostname of the server. From there go to Operations. Select Alternat Access Mappings. Create an alternate access mapping http://vs2008 for http://sharepoint.mydomain.com.
That's all. Once that's created, creating the new TFS project went through with no errors. | |
