| Cellphones and The Cancer They Are Suppose to Cause

Just read this article this morning. Needless to say, it got me upset enough to rant about it.
Why is it that since there has not been conclusive evidence linking cellphone usage to cancer that people are still so wrapped up about it? I am not arguing that they don't. Why can't people just let the scientists do their jobs and determine what might be healthy and what might be harmful. Even if those that know the most can't be conclusive, who are we to make that conclusion?
Two types of people that get me worked up on this are:
So-called "health nuts"
In my mind, they are not so much real health nuts. They are just people with limited amounts of information, and worked up in some panic state-of-mind. They read an article like this and start to ask everyone around them whether or not they should stop using their cellphones. There is almost no way out of a lengthy discussion when they ambush you.
"Let me decide for you" politicians
This article stated the vote to be 10-1. In addition, the Mayor will sign it. I count 13, 11 voters, at least 1 to tally the votes, and one Mayor. Instead of trying to figure out how to save California more money, they gather in an A/C'ed room, deciding what businesses should do based on some unvalidated scare of cellphone radiation. I would venture to say that all 13 of them carry a cellphone. I wouldn't be surprised if most of them have smartphones that communicate with the cell towers much more than the "dumbphones." Their focusing on these type of "issues" and not on California's spending is why California has so many paranoid people and is a near-bankrupt state.
The reality is that regardless of whether or not one uses a cellphone at all, we are all exposed to tons of radiation as is. In order to have a good signal on our phones, cell towers need to transmit with much more power than our phones can ever do. Our home cordless phones, microwave ovens, and EMF from just the wires throughout the house all emit either EMF or microwaves that can potentially harm us, according to the cellphone theory. Most of these other devices easily emit much more powerful waves than cellphones. Take these new 6.0GHz cordless phones. They operate at over 3X the frequency of cellphones. That means the radio waves/microwaves they emit are more than 9X the power. Somehow, we are happy when we live where we get good cellphone reception, but don't think twice about the microwave that comes from the cell towers. My point is we are bombarded with all these radio/microwaves, EMF, and even, radiation, regardless of individual cellphone usage, or lack of. Which means the discussion of the transmission power of a cellphone is simply a farce. It's like putting on a dry shirt and walking in the rain, thinking that the dry shirt will keep you dry. You ARE wet regardless of the shirt.
So for the so-called "health nuts" out there, if you are so concerned, stop using the phone. Don't ask what we think whether or not you should stop using it. For the politicians, stop trying to decide for us. Stop wasting our tax dollars on issues which you should not be spending time on. Figure out how to balance the budget like the rest of us tax payers do with our own. | |

As we refused to have the contractors finish the job, they deducted some money from the originally agreed amount. We now have to finish the projects.
