Microsoft Updates Killed My Computer
  7/7/2009 4:47:41 PM

For a while now, my Dell Precision M6300 has been having some crashing issues with Windows Explorer on Vista 32-bit Business.  I've googled around to try to find a solution, but have not been able to get anything to work.  Recently, the crashing became quite frequent  I was crashing more than 5 times per day.  This morning, I called my IT.  He suggested for me to try installing IE8.  I didn't think twice since I knew that IE has always been a close cousin of Windows Explorer.  Also, Windows Update was nagging me to upgrade to IE8 anyway.  I decided to proceed with the update.  Along with IE8, Windows Update suggested a couple of LIVE product updates.  I didn't think much of it, so I proceeded.

After installing, it requested for a reboot.  Sicne that's always been the case for certain updates, I agreed to the reboot.  THAT, was the last time I saw my OS.  Sigh...  I've tried starting in Safe Mode.  I've tried to repair using the Dell OS Disk.  Neither have been successful.  I've often wondered how MS gets away with releasing updates that crash computers.  To be fair, it might just be my computer that they seem to have issues with.  The whole thing started after SP1.  After installing SP1, my boot time went to minutes.  I forget when the Explorer problem started.  Not that long ago, another update killed my USB.  This time, as if MS is telling me that I haven't learned my lessons about MS Updates, they decided to crash it completely.
