Water Damage Phase 4-Furnitureless
  4/15/2008 6:30:00 PM

It's been over four weeks since the last time we saw the contractors.  It's been almost 3 months since we've seen our furniture.

In the past month, we've been trying very hard to get our furniture back.  Believe it or not, the contractors I've spoken so well of, have been, for the lack of a better word, holding our furniture hostage.  At first, I thought it was just a misunderstanding in the quoted price.  Unfortunately, I did the stupid thing of not having everything on paper before we started the job.  To make the long story short, instead of speaking to us in a professional matter, the contractors have chosen to hold our furniture against our will, and have refused to make arrangements for settlement.  They will not talk to us reasonably.  They have sent ridiculous invoices with no means of payment options.  I think they are just going through the motions so they can finally put a lien on our house.

Meanwhile, we did some investigating of our own.  What's so scary is that instead of this 40+ employee company they claimed to be in the beginning, they turned out to be a couple of guys running this business out of their homes.  As far as we can tell, they do not have a "warehouse" as they claimed.  They've been using the logos of several air-quality agencies illegally.  Their license do not allow for employees, but yet, their guys have worked on my house.

Guess what, on top of doing a bad job on some things, they haven't finished the work yet...  It's not a huge deal in that my house isn't falling apart.  However, it's obvious grounds of not paying them more money.  I've just sent them a certified letter informing them that if they do not return our furniture, we will be going to the state contractor's licensing board with what we've found.  Hopefully we will hear from them.

This will be the last chance for them.  For now, I will not make public of their company name.  However, if anyone is doing research on contractors in the Southern California area, and would like more info on this company, pleasse contact me.  I will share the information offline.  All I can say at this point is beware of trusting everything a contractor is claiming.  Never let them "store" your furniture for you.
